Laxman Jhula is a famous 450-foot (137-meter) iron suspension bridge over the Ganges River in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, which is currently closed to the public due to safety concerns and structural aging. [1, 2, 3]
Current Status & Replacement
- Closed for Public: The historic bridge was shut down because it could no longer safely sustain heavy pedestrian and two-wheeler loads.
- New Alternative: The nearby Bajrang Setu—a modern bridge featuring transparent glass walkways—has been built right next to the historic site to replace it and handle pedestrian crossings.
- Alternatives for Crossing: While you cannot walk on Laxman Jhula anymore, you can still use the nearby Ram Jhula to cross the river.
